A Day Off?!

Let me start this off by saying that all summer I worked Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with a random week off and an occasional late day due to a doctor's appointment.  I know my friends in the real world live like this all the time, but that schedule was not my favorite thing in the world!  So getting down to Florida and having days off, I DO NOT know what to do with myself!  Its so weird knowing soon I'll be busy busy busy very soon, but for now, I just wait for that to come.

Like I said in my last post, Sunday was filled with checking in and getting unpacked.  The unpacking went by way faster than the packing did and by dinner everything was unpacked and had a place to go in my room.  I must say this is one of the perks of having a furnished apartment.  For once I didn't have to worry about moving couches and futons or kitchen tables and nightstands!  It was a big relief to say the least.

Yesterday (Monday), all we had was a Housing Welcome Meeting.  Three of my roommates had theirs at 11:00 a.m., my roommate and I had ours at 1:00 p.m., and one of my roommates had her meeting at 3:00 p.m.  So we were pretty much in and out of the apartment all day.  I finally got my parking permit!!  I must say the security here is crazy!

I'm not sure if I talked about how the DCP apartments work but there are four different apartment complexes for the Disney College Program participants.  People are moving in and out every week.  There's Vista Way which is where check-in was and those are the oldest apartments, but there are more buildings there than at the other complexes.  I live across the street and around the corner at a place called Little Lake Bryan where there are multiple complexes.  We have The Commons which is mainly International and Culinary Program students, but also some DCPers.  The Commons is super nice and even has laundry inside each unit (or so I've heard), the rest of the apartments just have laundry areas throughout the different apartment buildings.  There's also Chatham Square, which is where the bus stop is, and then there's Patterson Court, where I live!  At all of these complexes, you have to show your Housing ID to get in whether you're walking or driving.  Its pretty intense but helps keep things safe so I'm grateful for the security here!  Also, transportation is provided by Disney to go anywhere on property.  Whether we're going to work or going to play, the buses will take us to any park or resort!!

Okay, now back to what happened yesterday.  After I got my parking permit, I came back to the apartment and just hung out with my roommates until Courtney got back from the Welcome Meeting.  We then decided that we should have our first roommate dinner so we headed to Publix and got spaghetti, salad, bread, and Moscato!!  If I didn't already love my roomies enough, the fact that we all agreed upon Moscato sealed the deal for me!  The plan was to come back and make dinner but it was getting close to 8:00 and we wanted to go watch our new friend Khailen take a class at Antigravity.  Let me just say it was so cool!!! These people were doing Cirque du Soleil stuff!  It was awesome just watching them do tricks I know I can never do hah!  We stayed and watched for an hour before our stomachs decided it was time to come back home and cook some spaghetti!  Our first dinner was such a success!  We spent hours just laughing and talking!  After dinner, we decided to watch Cinderella (of course).  We still haven't hooked up our cable so we had to stick with a Disney movie for the night.  Unfortunately we all fell asleep before it was over (hah!) but it was a great night to say the least.  I can't wait for the laughter and great times we'll share over the next 5 months!

So I decided since we didn't have to do anything today, I might as well take advantage of sleeping in while I could.  Of course a year ago, sleeping in meant sleeping until at least noon...that's not the case anymore.  I slept until 9:30 a.m.!  Today everyone is kind of doing their own thing.  I'm about to head to Walmart to get some more substantial food so I'm not tempted to eat out every other meal!  Also, I'm going to take my first trip to the outlets.  Did I tell you that I live within 2 miles of like three outlets?!  This could be a bad thing...or a wonderful thing haha!  Tomorrow when I finally get my Cast Member ID, I can start using some discounts I get (including at the Orlando Premium Outlets that are right outside my apartment complex!!)

Tomorrow we have Traditions which is our "first day of work" according to Disney.  Its pretty much our first day of training and its something that all Disney employees go through.  I'm super excited and knowing me I'll probably cry at some point along the way from the excitement!!!  Its supposed to last like four hours long but I'll be even more official once its over with my name tag and Cast Member ID (pictures to come).  That also means tomorrow is the first day I can officially go in the parks for free!!!!

I hope you're enjoying my updates from Disney!  I doubt they'll be daily once work really starts, but I'll try!  After Traditions tomorrow, I have my food and beverage training on Friday then I'm free until Magic Kingdom training on Tuesday.  What to do?  Oh yeah, I'll be in the parks for sure!  After Tuesday, I'm still clueless as to what my training schedule will look like but I'm hoping to get to work super soon!

I'll leave you with a little sneak peek of what my costume will probably look like...brace yourself.  I'll be wearing some authentic colonial garb! (see what I did there?)  I get to try my costume on next Tuesday during training and can't even wait to tell you all the sweet details hahah!!

I plan on being this excited about my costume as well, no jokes!
